What are Learning Mentors?

Our Learning Mentors are specially trained and follow national guidelines for.   It is the job of Learning Mentors to help children build self-confidence and high self-esteem.   When children feel good about themselves they become successful learners.  Learning Mentors work with teachers,  support staff and outside agencies.

Who are the Learning Mentors?

Touria Elouali and Mussarat Ahmed are Stoneydown's Learning Mentors.

How do Learning Mentors work?

They work mostly with individual children or small groups and give extra encouragement to children who can benefit from it most.   If your child has been referred to work with a Learning Mentor we will let you know so that we can work together to achieve his or her full potential. Touria and Mussarat also run the Breakfast Club which opens at 8.00am, so do let the school know if you would like some more details.

Touria and Mussarat also have responsibility for encouraging good attendance and punctuality. They look in the registers each week or speak to other staff to pick up on any children who are missing out on their education

through absence or regularly missing part of the first lesson at 8.50am each day.

How can parents / carers find out more?

Touria and Mussarat are usually available at the beginning and the end of the school day.  They would be happy to talk to you and answer any questions you might have.
