Tree Planting in the Park

The park has it's own team of helpers that clean and refresh the park on a regular basis.

This year, over sixty children helped to plant new trees which will eventually become a woodland walk. They had a really interesting, educational and active session where they were shown the different varieties of trees that were going to be planted and then how to prepare the ground and plant the tree. Every child planted a couple of trees each and were delighted that they were involved in creating a whole new area of the park for themselves and other people to enjoy.

Some thoughts from the children.

I thought it was very interesting because it's not very often that we get to plant trees. It was fun and we learnt that worms don't grow back together if they break in half. When we needed help, the people there were very helpful. It is good that the park is getting improved because it makes it more safe and much better for children to run around in without other people coming in and messing it up. (Chloe Year 5)

It's the first time that I've ever been tree planting and I had a real opportunity to find out how we plant trees. We had to use good soil and the hole has to be really big and deep. There should be a sign that says "No Stomping on the Trees" as trees are really precious and give us oxygen. (Keanu Year 5)

This was fun. It was the first time I had ever planted a tree. I think it is good that we are planting more trees in the world because some people don't realise what they are doing by destroying all the trees to make paper. (Krittikan Year 4)
